Maintenance / Hardwood Floor Care Guide
-
Hardwood Floor Maintenance Products: Terry Mop Kit, Replacement Covers, Felt Floor Protector Pads, and Hardwood Floor Cleaner. - Place “Dirt catching” walk-off mats at every entrance of the home. This cuts down on the dirt, sand and grit on your shoes so that when you walk across your floor you don’t become a human sanding machine grinding the finish off of the floor.
Dust mop or sweep the floor regularly. If you do sweep, however, use an exploded tip nylon broom. Straw brooms tend to be too aggressive on some floor finishes.
- NEVER wax a “no wax” hardwood floor.
- When the floor needs mopped (no wax finishes only) lightly mist a neutral PH cleaner onto an 8’ x 8’ area of flooring and wipe up with a specially designed wood floor mop or soft cloth. The wood floor mop is designed to keep the amount of liquid used to clean the floor to a minimum. For those of you who are wondering what a neutral PH cleaner is, it is simply a cleaner that contains no acid or oil base.
- Place floor protector pads of soft felt or similar material on the bottoms of legs of furniture. Floor protectors must be kept clean of grit and will periodically need replaced.
- Keep high heels in good repair. An unprotected tip will dent any hardwood floor.
- Kitchen Floors experience the most traffic in a home. To prevent premature wear to the floor. Place an area rug in front of the sink and stove area.
